Closets are always evolving and changing, we are constantly switching out our purses or jeans or just seasonal items and sometimes we are different sizes , or our styles change but none the less. The beginning of the year is always a good time to start fresh and go through our closets and do a really good clean out. I like to start with the things you may have not worn for a while or clothes that just don't fit. I have clothes I never wore or never will wear to be honest. I sometimes have a habit of buying clothes I really don't need, then I never wear them. I know I'm not the only one like this. I also have clothes that just really don't fit very well. I had a son 7 months ago so the clothes that could fit me before I had him, don't fit the same like they use to. So I'm purging and going through my entire closet to start the year off fresh and clean. And of course to make room for more pieces as I shop entirely to much.
I'm going to take you through the steps I use to purge, clean out and organize my closet for the new year.
1.| TRY ON AND PURGE
&
2. | CREATE A KEEP, MAYBE AND DONATE PILE
-The first step for me is trying on the clothes I haven't wore to see if I'm still in love with it or if it even fits. Sometimes I will even see what outfits I can wear with it to get a sense if I still love the item of clothing before I donate it or keep it. If I decide I love the piece of clothing I hang it up and if I don't like it I add it to my donate pile and If I'm not sure I just set it aside to decide after I'm done cleaning out my entire closet.
3. |DONATE
With the clothes I decide I want to donate I always start with family first, because you never know they might like something and want it. Then I find places that could use donations. Women's shelters, churches or a used clothing shop. I'll list a few places you can donate to in Arizona, but you can always check your local area for places to donate your used clothes.
+Sojourner Center
+Save The Family Donations
+Phoenix Rescue Mission
+Goodwill
+The Salvation Army
+Maggie Place
+Umom New Day Center
*Covid-19 Restrictions May Be In Place For Donations
4.| SELL YOUR CLOTHES ONLINE | EARN SOME EXTRA CASH
-One way you can make extra money on your clothes (the ones you don't want of course) is to sell them online. You can use POSHMARK or create an Instagram page and sell them through there. Its a simple way to make some extra cash with the clothes you already don't want. Some tips for selling online is make sure you photos are nice with great lighting. You give the buyer detailed information on the items you are selling and make sure the clothes are cleaned and looked there best.
5. | ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET
-This is the fun part for me. Organization Organization Organization !! I like to organize my closet to look the most aesthetically pleasing but also very functional, so I can find everything.
Below is a guide to how I organize my closet. I sort each item of clothing by style. Then I sort that style from light to dark. It creates a nice look and makes finding that green long sleeve top much easier.
This is how I organize each style of clothing
Sleeveless & Thin Straps | Short Sleeves | Medium Length Sleeves | Long Sleeves | Cardigans & Sweaters
Then Each Style I like To Organize By Color using ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) or Light To Dark
